Fee Details:

11856: Fish Diet Invertebrate Samples with dissection

Rates are calculated for 100 samples. Identification, measurements & data entry will be made by a Faculty Research Assistant at Oregon State University, Dept. of Fisheries & Wildlife Stream Lab. Identification will be made using research quality dissecting microscopes. Taxonomic resolution to be negotiated with the client. These estimates assume aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates will be identified at least to order, often family level, depending on condition of diet items; Diptera requiring greater resolution to classify as aquatic will be identified if condition of prey permits. Length of prey head capsules, and/or intact bodies will be measured for client to use in calculations of length weight regressions. This fee will be used if dissection of the fish is necessary for identification. These estimates are based on our experience with salmonid diet in the southern Cascades and Coast Range of Oregon. If diet samples from other locations or other fish species vary from expectations, we will discuss modifying these fees to accommodate the laboratory effort required.
